For Homecoming, our school decided to do a Lip Dub. It was so much fun to see the school community come together to create this! Here is a link and some behind the scenes photos.
The 8th Grade Class were in the library for filming. Their 7th grade reading teacher is standing on a chair (can you guess who she is?), their 8th grade reading teacher is in a tutu, and their 8th grade English teacher changed her hair color and is dancing on a table while another 8th grade English teacher is dancing in the background. Great fun!

Celebrating Our Words!
We celebrated the best lines or phrases from our descriptive writing. There are so many talented writers in this class! We will do a gallery walk to get inspired and celebrate the great minds at work in this class.

Podcasting
Hearing the voice behind the poetry can be powerful. Hana did an exceptional job not only writing her poem but reading it for us, as well.
Have I mentioned how amazing my students are? This is such an awesome class!

Getting Descriptive
To kick off our descriptive writing unit, students wrote a paragraph physically describing a person or object. Then we used Google Drawings to take those descriptive details and draw the person or object. We have so real talent in this class not only with writing but with tech skills, too!

Daily Grammar Practice (DGP)
We start each day with DGP. The kids know to come into the classroom, grab their folder, and take out their DGP Resource Packet and Paper. It's a great routine to start off each class period.
Monday-Wednesday, I have students try to do the DGP on their own first for a of couple minutes, then they can talk with table-mates, and after that we do it on the board together. Thursday's and Friday's DGP apply what we have learned the previous three days about the sentences; students do the independently with some hints from me.
Monday: Parts of Speech
Tuesday: Sentence Parts and Phrases
Wednesday: Clauses and Sentence Types
Thursday: Punctuation and Capitalization
Friday: Diagramming
