Social Media Argument: PUBLISHING DAY!!!

It always feels good to complete a writing assignment. We spend a lot of time prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing to get to this point. It's quite an accomplishment to finish!

To publish, we post our essays to our personal blogs.
Then we print and hand in our writing to Mrs. Troester.

Happy Days!

Social Media Argument: Peer Review

Today we peer reviewed one another's arguments. First we exchanged computers and assessment papers. We read the arguments and gave feedback on the assessment paper about what improvements need to be made. Then we took some time to revise.
After that we sat with a new partner to read our argument out loud. Sometimes reading our writing out loud helps us catch little mistakes in grammar or punctuation.

Social Media Argument: Writing Mentor's Feedback

Here is an example of feedback one student received about his social media argument essay. You can see the feedback is very specific and helpful. This advice is paramount for students to use as they revise their essays.

Social Media Argument: Making Claims

After researching youth's use of social media, students joined the conversation and made their own claims about the topic. This will be used in their argument essay about social media. I had them write their claims on index cards, so I could read them in order to give them feedback. Their index cards were their tickets out the door.

Social Media Argument: Sharing Thoughts

We are exploring different arguments about youth's use of social media. We read different articles that featured several points of view including administrators, future employers, parents, and colleges. They showed the negative affects and the benefits of youth using social media.

Today we wrote and then shared our thoughts after reading all the different points of view.

THANK YOU!

Words are so powerful.
Taking the time to say "Thank you" is incredibly important.
We took time to tell our administrators and chaperones thank you for supporting and sponsoring the trip to Lincoln.

Trip to UNL to Meet Our Writing Mentors

We traveled to Lincoln to meet our writing mentors. While we were there, we got to know our mentors better over icebreakers and pizza. Then we did a writing marathon! After our read around, we went to the Haymarket.
Overall, it was a fun-filled learning experience!
